Is there anything that says summertime as well as s’mores?
In honor of the Fourth of July holiday, I want to share with you a top secret family recipe for these traditional campfire treats. This recipe was developed by my sister-in-law.
We call them “Jackie’s”.
These are a s’more for the chocoholic. They need to be made and eaten carefully where the children cannot see you. For if the children see you, they too will want a “Jackie” and you will quickly run out of chocolate bars!
First, roast a marshmallow to perfection. I realize perfection in marshmallow roasting means different things to different people, but to me, it means a crusty brown exterior and a gooey melted interior.
Then, when the children are not watching, take an entire Hershey’s bar with almonds. (I know, if you’re like me, you ration the chocolate at the campfire giving each child an equal share, that’s why you need to be stealth!)
Break the Hershey’s bar in two and sandwich the perfectly toasted marshmallow between the two halves.
Then find a hidden place and enjoy the rich melting chocolate and the gooey marshmallow goodness!
Note: A regular Hershey bar can be substituted for the almond bar, but why?
Have a wonderful Fourth of July weekend!
