It’s raining, it’s pouring… but this old woman is not snoring – she’s fretting and frustrated!
We have seriously had too much rain. The National Weather Service reported that we have had over 11 inches already in June. That averages out to almost an inch a day. Over 6 of those came at once on the infamous Chuck Norris Saturday – and we haven’t dried out since.
The weather radio seems stuck. “A chance of rain before midnight, some locally heavy. A chance of rain after midnight…”
It’s become almost a joke. Almost.
Your heart goes out to the farmers who should be finishing up their first cutting of hay and starting their second.
It also goes out to my poor garden. My tomatoes and peppers have been in for almost three weeks now and they are not growing. They look yellowed and forlorn. Shall we talk about my green beans?! They have also been in for 3 weeks. Only 4 seeds germinated. I guess I’ll replant for the third time.
Don’t I have a lovely river running through it?! I guess I shouldn’t complain – some farmers can almost float a bass boat in their fields.
And here is my corn patch -overtaken by grass – it seems to like the wet weather. Trust me – there is corn growing in there – somewhere.
But all is not lost! There are still things to be thankful for. The cool wet weather has meant a longer and more abundant asparagus harvest and the red raspberries are just coming on now. We had our first wild black raspberry this week – and I see one lone blossom on one hearty pepper plant.
Let’s count some more blessings… the corn germinated pretty well and looks good (if we can just get the grass out of it!) The local Amish store had several nice watermelon and cantaloupe plants for sale that replaced everything the ones that didn’t come up from seed (which would be all of them!)
And the rain just stopped for today. The sun is out and the birds are singing.

Oh, I’m so sorry you’re having a rough time with all the rain. We’ve had just enough rain to keep everything growing, but that also applies to the grass I can’t seem to get rid of too. My back up plan is to hit the Amish produce auction next month and buy what doesn’t do well at home.

Your poor garden… It reminds me of a recent science experiment that MaKayla did with radish seeds. Two pie plates filled with potting soil…seeds sprinkled on top of the soil…little moisture added…covered with plastic wrap…some were blessed with light…some were left in the dark…green sprouts vs. yellow sprouts… Sounds like your garden needs some SUN for those yellowing plants. It was an awesome lesson intertwining the physical with the spiritual and how our environment affects our growth. A good blog post one of these days!
Our garden is actually doing fairly well and we praise God for that! Sounds like the sun is going to shine bright and hot today! Yipee!!! Get out and soak some of it up! 🙂

Thank heavens for sunny days! Hopefully you will see lots more of it. Maybe once that happens, your garden will flourish with all the extra water to start it out!

As a fellow gardener empathized with the ups and downs of your garden. Your soil will be so ready for good growth after the rain. Where I live we struggle with drought and now they say our cost of water will be increasing by up to 20%.

Wow! That is a lot of rain…I pray you get relief very soon. We got rain today for the very first time in such a long time…I loved it! Our temp was up to 110 though so the temp went down drastically. I even got goose-bumps.

Oh, your poor drowned plants; I guess you really can have too much of a good thing. If I could work out a trade for some of rain in exchange for some of our sunshine, I would do it today. I hope the storms pass in time for most of your plants to recover!

OK, after viewing your garden, I’m not going to complain about our rainy, cold NW spring anymore! We’ve had record rain for here, but nothing like your poor garden. It’s inspiring that you are counting your blessings anyway!

And I have been lamenting over our very wet rainy June. From the looks of your place, you’ve had more than us. Your poor garden! We’ll both be praying for some dry weather and summer soon. I’ve worried about our hay farmers as well. They usually don’t cut/bale until first of July. It’s been good growing for them; the deal will be whether it will ever stay dry enough to get a good baling. Guess we need to pray for them too!
